Classic chocolate chip recipe from my Mum’s old cookbook.

Tools

  • 1 1 cup Measuring cup
  • 1 Teaspoon
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon
  • 1 Mixer, a countertop mixer works best but a handheld mixer can be used for the wet ingredients followed by folding everything together by hand
  • 1 Spatula
  • 2 Baking sheets
  • 1 Large mixing bowl
  • 2 Cooling racks
  • 2 Spoons

Optional

  • 1 1/2 cup Measuring cup
  • 1 1/4 cup Measuring cup
  • 1 Tablespoon

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, at room temperature, can substitute 1/2 cup Melt butter alternative
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract , use 1 tbsp for a stronger flavour
  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 cups chocolate chips, about 1 small bag
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts, about 1 small bag
Note: If using butter alternative add 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup more flour

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F, making sure the oven racks are evenly spaced in the middle
  2. Cream butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla together
  3. Mix in flour, salt, and baking soda to the wet ingredients
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts
  5. Scoop out dough using spoons to drop on baking sheet
  6. Bake for 12 minutes, flipping the trays halfway through
  7. Remove the cookies from the oven and place them on a cooling rack for 5 minutes
